About the 4713 Flatfish
The 4713 Flatfish CD transport/player by 47 Laboratory features a unique top-loading design with no disc chamber or cover, exposing the laser and pickup mechanism when not covered by a CD or the included acrylic lens protector. Its platform and casing are made from a 150g, 0.67-inch-thick machined aluminum board that serves as both the chassis and mounting board for the drive mechanism and circuits, minimizing vibrations and enabling quick transient response. The spindle is slightly off-centered to diffuse vibrations further, reducing reliance on servo-controlled corrections. Controls are located on the top with four small toggle switches for power, stop/TOC, music skip, and pause/play. The unit outputs digital signals via two coaxial RCA outputs and analog signals via one unbalanced RCA output. The 4713 Flatfish is designed to maximize the potential of the CD format with a minimalistic and vibration-free construction, delivering superior sonic performance with quick transient response, stable imaging, and flat energy balance. It is often paired with the 4705 Progression DAC and the 4799 Power Dumpty power supply for a complete high-end digital audio system.
