About Transcriptors Ltd.
Transcriptors Ltd. was a pioneering British hi-fi company, founded in 1960 by engineer/designer David Gammon, best known for manufacturing high-end manual turntables, tonearms, and precision audio accessories. The company became internationally celebrated for its innovative and visually striking designs—notably the Hydraulic Reference turntable, which achieved cinematic fame in the 1971 film 'A Clockwork Orange.' Transcriptors products were widely admired for both their sound quality and their modernist styling, and the company operated one of Europe's most advanced hi-fi manufacturing plants during the 1960s, 70s, and early 80s. Though original production ceased in 1981, the brand retains a strong following among hi-fi enthusiasts for its engineering legacy and iconic aesthetics. The brand was revived in the early 2000s by David Gammon's family, offering servicing, spares, and modern editions of classic models.
