About CeWL
CeWL is an open-source custom word list generator aimed at penetration testers. Written in Ruby, it spiders a target website to a user-defined depth and extracts unique words for use in password cracking tools such as John the Ripper and Hashcat. CeWL can optionally collect email addresses and author metadata from documents and supports case-sensitive output, making it particularly useful for generating targeted password lists based on specific organizational vocabularies. The tool is widely used in security assessments, comes pre-installed on distributions like Kali Linux, and is available for download from the official site and GitHub.
