Bösendorfer is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious piano manufacturers, founded in 1828 by Ignaz Bösendorfer in Vienna, Austria. Renowned for its meticulous Viennese craftsmanship and distinctively rich, resonant sound, Bösendorfer produces around 300 handcrafted instruments per year, including grand and upright pianos. Their instruments are celebrated for their longevity, expressive tonal palette, and use of high-quality spruce, with over 80% of the instrument’s structure comprised of this wood. Since 2008, Bösendorfer has been wholly owned by Yamaha but continues to operate independently in Austria, maintaining its heritage and artisanal tradition.
